About this deal

The Kima Classic is a sub- bass focused IEM, with bass just north of neutral. There's a slight rumble when the music calls for it, though this set is not a bona fide basshead IEM. The Kima Classic has excellent bass quality - with a rapid bass that is textured, with minimal mid-bass bleed. The gold-plated brass nozzles are ridged to retain ear tips, have a metal interior grill, and are polished and extraordinarily shiny.

It is possible to be quite good without being particularly special. If that’s a win or a loss is a matter of perspective. On the instrumental level, everything fits together, as do the voices. The timbre is certainly natural, a little dry, because there is no brightness, but restrained. This limits its expressiveness or eloquence, but does not diminish its transparency or clarity. The thrust of the details is neat, perspicuous and the level achieved in this aspect is remarkable, without the presentation being analytical or cold. This is a good example of the relationship between weight, density, resolution, detail and transparency. It is possible to have a remarkable degree of all these skills, but without the sound becoming unnatural. It is the great example of neutrality, homogeneity and balance. However, the Titan S can sound too sterile at times, and the midrange shoutiness can be a bother – two issues the Dunu Kima avoid. I also find the Kima to have better build and accessories in general. Drivability / PairingAs far as drivability, the DKC is easy to drive to good fidelity. The DKC is rated at 32 ohms with a sensitivity of 108 decibels give or take a dB or two. Using a simple IPad 6th generation I was actually able to bring the DKC to a nice volume, but I noticed that separation, detail retrieval and the overall dynamic expression suffers a bit. So yes, you can bring this set to volume nicely with just a simple smartphone, but you will not get the most out of the DKC.

Certainly that for a midcentric like me, KIMA seems the pass in flying colours on how it sounds so balanced and well-delineated for a single DD.

The shape is very good and once fitted, the capsules rest very well in my ears. The overall mouthpiece projection, like the length of the set, is on the shallow end. I don't know if it's the angle, but I found it difficult to find tips with which to achieve an occlusive seal, without loss of bass. On this occasion, I had to resort to the most normal silicone tips, size L (13.5mm outer diameter), with an inner core of 4.5mm. The core is long and supports the mouthpiece a bit further, the insertion is shallow and relatively fragile, not very suitable for use in movement, just walking or very gentle activities. While retaining the praised look of the OG Kima, the new Kima Classic has a new color scheme for its shells. The pair has a beautiful coffee grey color scheme with a golden ear nozzle. The ear shells here are crafted using high-precision melting and casting molds. They are then finished with a specially selected sandblasting process giving them a nicely textured finish!! Color-Matched Cable Shielding:- MidrangeThe midrange experiences some spill-over from the bass region. Notably in the lower-midrange as it is warmer in that area of the mix than it isn’t. I only bring this up in comparison to the original Kima. There would be no reason to even add this to the review if not for the OG because this is a very normal thing to see. Granted, Dunu tuned the Dunu Kima Classic with a nice downslope into the mids. A nice cut-off for a V-shaped set. The sound is still very clean and reasonably resolute. Yet, for those of us who have heard the OG and enjoyed that extra clarity in regions like the lower-mids I just wanted to make the distinction.
