About this deal

As the Lord Commander Solar, Arcadian Leontus sits among the highest echelons of the Imperium, boasting an unimaginable roll of titles, peerages, ranks, and probably a whole gaggle of attendants tasked solely with ensuring that his horse has enough cyber-hay. The Eldritch Omens box set, released in February 2022,had already dropped some brand new plastic models for the Chaos Space Marines’ Warpsmith character and Chosen unit. These joined the faction’s previous batch of updated model kits, released in and around the Shadowspear box set in 2019. Like the others, it’s full of army-specific datasheets, rules, and bespoke Crusade content for the Death Guard, the vile, disgustingly resilient sons of the dread Daemon Primarch Mortarion. The codex includes full rules for all the new Sisters of Battle units, as well as updates for its existing range of models and wargear. There’s an extended Crusade rules section, plenty of point tweaks, and new rules for using prayers and hymns. The whole book is designed to provide much wider strategic variety among Adepta Sororitas armies, which has been found wanting in recent years. This death world is a jungle paradise, until you set foot on it. Everything wants to kill you there, and we do mean absolutely everything. The Catachan Jungle Fighters make up the core of their Imperial Guard regiment, deadly foes who look down on anyone who hasn’t suffered as they have. The Catachan Regimental Doctrine of Brutal Strength buffs Infantry units to gain +1 to Strength and +1 to Leadership if they’re near an officer, which can completely transform how you play your army. We mentioned above that the Astra Militarum doesn’t fare well in melee – that doesn’t apply to Catachan armies.

Instead of constraining you to a single specific regiment, the new codex has you mix and match tactics to create your favourite flavour of Guardsmen. All you need to do is choose a pair of Regimental Doctrines to dictate how they fight. These doctrines represent traits like superior artillery skills, high-quality armour, impressive discipline amongst the ranks, or experience in guerilla warfare.

Secondary Objectives

Cult Mechanicus • Collegia Titanica • Legiones Skitarii • Questor Mechanicus ( House Guard) • Centurio Ordinatus • Ordo Reductor • Legio Cybernetica • Auxilia Myrmidon • Prefecture Magisterium • Basilikon Astra • Divisio Linguistica • Explorator • Sect Missionarius Mechanicus • Collegiate Extremis • Astynomia Astra Militarum units and models tend to be quite fragile in the face of incoming damage, too. This makes sense given what they are – we’re talking humans after all, not the daemons from a pain dimension which some armies can field – so it’s understandable that, model-for-model, the Imperial Guard can be squishy. Some Regimental Doctrines grant unique keywords, like EXPERT BOMBARDIERS or VETERAN GUERILLAS. These specialists are even better at employing powerful Stratagems that mirror classic fighting styles, such as the trap-setting proclivities of the Catachan Jungle Fighters or the flagrant disregard for subordinate safety displayed by Valhalla’s hard-nosed commanders.

Commissars of the Officio Prefectus were introduced: men and women who were trained and indoctrinated as incorruptible watchdogs, arbiters of Imperial authority who would ensure the swift and public execution of cowards and malcontents. it followed a similar template to the Beast Snagga launch: the boxed set was available for a short time and included a limited-edition copy of the new codex, which released independently a few weeks after. Now it’s out in the wild, and includes a multitude of datasheets, Strategems, Relics, Warlord Traits, and more for the most fastidious enforcers of Imperial might. But the rulebooks’ release cycle was delayed on December 4 2020, when GW put the release of the Death Guardcodex on ice due to “unavoidable delays to crucial shipments”. That book finally arrived in late January 2021.

Death Guard players had to wait months longer than planned, but when the codex did come, it came along with some extra goodies – primarily the long-teased and fundamentally foul Lord of Virulence model, and a Death Guard Combat Patrol starter box – the first of its kind for a Chaos army. Called Cadia Stands, this Army Launch Set is the start of a huge overhaul for the Astra Militarum range, bringing new and highly detailed kits to the battlefields of Warhammer 40,000.

The World Eaterstied off all the Warhammer 40k Chaos factions– and in fact, all the codexes for 9th edition. And as our writer Tim Linward says in his World Eaters Codex review, they might be the very best codex of the edition. Adding 1 to wound rolls is a welcome addition to the fight against CHAOS – whether your soldiers are gunning down warp-shielded daemons or blood-crazed Space Marines. After being raised, the regiment is shipped to its posting; they receive their training during the voyage. Their posting can be directly into the heart of a warzone, or it may be to garrison or outpost duty. [Needs Citation]

Space Marine Adventures ( Rise of the Orks • Doomsday Countdown) • Fireteam • Kill Team • Combat Arena: Clash of Champions • Boarding Actions The nine remaining Loyalist Space Marine Legions were split into Chapters. The Imperial Army, as it was, ceased to exist. The link between fleet and army was severed; never again would ground commanders be given direct control over interstellar warships. From its ashes were born the Imperial Navy and the Imperial Guard -- known officially as the Astra Militarum. Despite the technological immensity that the Astra Militarum can deliver to the battlefield, the cold fact of the matter is that the most important resource of the Guard is the seemingly limitless number of bodies it can deploy to contest its objectives - each imperial world is obligated to make available for recruitment 10% of its armed forces per year, and armies may be gathered from a 10,000 light-year radius. [11a] It does not matter the number of casualties it may take to win a battle. The Imperial Guard will devote many thousands of men to overcome a small goal as the Space Marines would devote a few hundred. Obviously, a Guardsman could never possess the battle prowess of a Space Marine, but there are many millions of Guardsmen for just that one Space Marine. [Needs Citation] Relics of the Astra Militarum The force that would evolve into the Astra Militarum first came into being during the Horus Heresy. Since those days, in battles beyond number, countless Imperial soldiers have forged a roll of honour so mighty that an entire continent of Terra is given over to its immortalisation. Yet every victory is but a drop in an unending ocean of warfare, for new threats assail the Imperium every single solar day.Fragmentary legends and disassociated names from that time echo through the Imperial Guard's myths to the present. Stories of selfless Ollanius Pius, the almost certainly fictitious Brezhvet Companions and the final sally of Dharro Alpha Brigade have been repeated and altered the galaxy over. Perhaps our favourite change is to the biggest box of boom in the Astra Militarum arsenal – the Deathstrike missile launcher. This formidable artillery piece is getting a major overhaul. Random chance is out, mind games are in. Clad in the finest carapace armour, these special forces have more skills than your standard Astra Militarum trooper, and are able to cut down their enemies with volleys from their hot-shot lasguns.
