family meals What’s For Dinner?: 30-minute quick and easy family meals

I am a cooking show junkie and I have always enjoyed Ryan Scott’s flair for making ordinary food exciting. This book has quite a few recipes that will become instant hits and there are quite a few that I am excited to try. The recipes include:

All in all, very well written, beautifully presented food, made from family friendly ingredients which are easily sourced and taste good. SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Serve with Greek yogurt and mixed fresh berries, or spread on some Nutella, jam or peanut butter for little mouths. Recipes include Banana Orange Breakfast Muffins, Creamy Chipotle Prawn Pasta, Sesame-crusted Cod Tacos, Blueberry Lemon Cheesecake Bars, Carrot Cake Muffins and many more delicious meals!

Special thanks to NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***Each of the recipes includes an introductory description, ingredients listed in a bullet point sidebar (US measurements only), and step by step instructions. Nutritional info is not included. I believe all of the recipes are accompanied by photographs. The photos provided are high quality and clear and serving suggestions are attractive and appropriate. This is definitely a beautifully photographed cookbook. Dip six of the crumpet halves into the egg mixture, first bottom side down then turn them over and leave them to soak up the mixture for 30 seconds. Place the cod fillets on the lined baking tray and spray the top and sides of the fish with spray oil. Bake for 18–20 minutes, ensuring the fish is fully cooked in the middle. I’ve never heard of Ryan Scott but apparently he’s a chef with a good reputation. I was expecting more interesting dishes but this book is boring and too long, none of the dishes were inspiring and the family photos just naff. There are far better cookery books out there and I wouldn’t bother with another of his books.

Fuss Free Family Cookbook by Ciara Three recipes from The Fuss Free Family Cookbook by Ciara

Take one whole cod fillet, dip it in the egg and then roll in the Panko breadcrumb mixture until it is fully coated. Repeat with the remaining two cod fillets. NOTES: The calories in this dessert will depend on the type of ice cream that you use. If you use a light ice cream the calories will be about 145 calories per portion. Regular ice cream will obviously be more. fat-free Greek yogurt | 50ml semi-skimmed milk | 50g Lighter than Light mayonnaise | 1 tsp Dijon mustard | 1/2 tsp garlic powder | 50g grated parmesan | salt & pepper This cookbook does a great job at including kid-friendly, adults-(probably)-only, and DIY to everyone’s own tastes. About half of the recipes have pictures. And each recipe has a blurb to introduce Ryan’s reasoning for including it. Many of the recipes also have notes at the end for substitutions and other tips. It’s a great cookbook to give as a gift to new families or more established families who may need some new staples.I absolutely was waiting for this book and I am a huge fan of Top Chef and contestants like Ryan Scott were definitely the most memorable and I remember his out of the box dishes he presented and how talented he is. I remember him saying that in his parent's restaurant, his father fired two cooks in the first week because he outcooked them at 11 years old. So I expected nothing but the best in this cookbook and now he is a family man, I was blown away at how easy he made these recipes and how fun they are to do with children (his daughter Olive is adorable). I can't wait to try the PB&J Pancakes, The no knead English Muffins and the buttermilk biscuits with almost no sugar jam. I know this will be a hit with our Cooking Demo and I can't wait to share it with our library. community. Affogato & Kiddies’ Affogato from The Fuss Free Cookbook by Ciara Attwell (Lagom) Affogato & Kiddies’ Affogato Would I buy or recommend? Oh yea! This cookbook has some mouth watering recipes. I have bookmarked quite a few! The fare inside is mostly American food but done a little more eloquently by a chef. Anyone who loves food and cooking will love this cookbook! I aim to make quite a few of these recipes! Five stars for No Fuss!

I reviewed all of the receipts in the book and was quite disappointed when I only found about 1 recipe per a section that I wanted to make. All of the recipes are pretty basic as far as ingredients and equipment needed go. I prefer a cookbook that gives me photos for each recipe as I like to see what the final product looks like. I eat with my eyes first. Younger children may find this easier if you separate the items out on their plate and cut the tortillas into triangles. The book has a simple layout and there are quite a few images to accompany the recipes. Ryan takes traditional family meals and turns them up a notch with flavour and healthy alternatives. There are also lots of notes included to give readers tips on how to achieve the best results. All the delicious flavours of a Caesar Salad bulked out with pasta for a filling, family-friendly lunch. Wonderful colour pictures of the food (and the authors very cute daughter). Easy to follow instructions. I also loved the authors notes for each recipe. Like which buns to buy. Freezing instructions and prepping ahead.

While I really enjoyed this cookbook and found it to be quite useful, the title might be very misleading to some. The idea of “no-fuss” implies that there are few steps and fast results. These recipes aren’t the fussiest ones that I have come across, but they aren’t as straightforward as I was expecting. Having to toast coconut and slice a banana to decorate the top for a banana bread recipe adds a little more time to my schedule, for sure.
