While he still has moments of selfishness and is portrayed as a self-obsessed character, he still proves to be selfless and self sacrificing when it really counts, which crafts King Julien to a great and memorable king of the Kingdom of Madagascar, particularly when in comparison with his uncle. The character of Julien in All Hail King Julien is much selfless and less autocratic (probably due to the advice he got from his royal entourage), than in TPoM and the movies released. At moments, he becomes extremely selfless and caring, only in All Hail King Julien, to ensure that his people are happy and and his friends safe, no matter how eccentric and weird his ideas and plans are. Clover and Sage are getting married, but when Julien throws a bachelor party and accidentally loses the groom-to-be, he has Timo and Dr. S. build a Franken-groom to stand in at the wedding.
Clover, who is only featured in All Hail King Julien, is extremely loyal to her king, taking the king as a colleague and one of her best friend. This is most evident in All Hail King Julien: Exiled, as well as the following examples: Return of the Uncle King, Body Double, Election, O Captain My Captain Pt. 1, O Captain My Captain Pt. 2, and The Good Book etc. Julien is lost in the jungle and accidentally saves a Mountain Lemur named Koto who turns out to be the biggest threat the kingdom has ever faced.When Julien finds an old book of manners, he wants to host a debutante ball, and invites the Crocodile Ambassador to teach the kingdom manners, but soon finds out that the whole idea is leaving everybody too uptight to party! King Julien tries to rig an election so that Maurice becomes Mango Prime Minister but soon realizes his opponent, Mort, has a better shot than everyone thinks. It is shown throughout the series that King Julien enjoys playfully interacting with Clover, his bodyguard, despite her strict personal space.
In an interview with Tom McGrath, he stated that King Julien had several loyal citizens, most predominant of which was a Lemur named Troy. After Clover announces that she will soon be leaving the kingdom, Julien realizes he'll need an army for defense and appoints himself as a drill sergeant.However in All Hail King Julien, there are only four such ring tailed lemurs and not seen as an abundant species like in the films: his uncle, Magic Steve, his mother and himself, where Magic Steve is his exact copy (clone) where his friends too are fooled by Steve. However, Steve was swallowed by the Crocodile Ambassador in Body Double. King Julien: I do, but I love savagely rejecting Mort. It makes me feel kingly. But how am I to feel kingly now? Exhausted from settling his subjects' disputes, King Julien replaces himself with a dummy king so he can play hooky by posing as "Banana Guy Mike," which unwittingly starts a rebellion. Julien finds a bag of coffee beans in the Cove of Wonders and fishes it out with Mort's help. Thinking that they are a gift from the sea gods, Julien gets the entire lemur community hooked on caffeine. What Julien doesn't know is that this is all a plan by Karl to bring the lemur kingdom to its knees. Eager to create fast food for the kingdom, Julien holds an idea contest. But will the winning entry be a dining delight or a cooking curse?
