About this deal

The Royal Kludge RK84 is another variation of the company’s original RK61 design. The main difference is that this model has an 84-key design (70% form factor) and uses 2.4 GHz wireless instead of Bluetooth. Software Support: I agree that the RK84 does not have the best software, but at least it has one. On the other hand, (as of the time of writing) the Keychron K2 does not have software support despite their “promise” of releasing one. Sloppy (but usable) software is still better than zero software.Things that the Royal Kludge RK84 does better than the K2:

RGB is bright enough to see in daylight. So you’ll get extra fps in daylight as well cause its a universal truth that RGB=fps boost xD.

The Royal Kludge Sink87G is the company’s Tenkeyless (TKL) offering. It has the same number of keys as most 70% keyboards (including the RK84) but has a more standard layout that is closer to full-size keyboards. And lastly, almost all RK keyboards have wireless functionality. Some are limited to Bluetooth, while others feature a more powerful 2.4 GHz wireless connection. Buyers get all of these features without spending a lot of money. Why Should You Look for Alternatives?

The keyboard features 2 built-in USB-A pass-through ports and 1 Type-C Port. Use the included USB-C cable to charge the keyboard, or connect it to a PC/laptop and use it as a wired keyboard.

The model I reviewed had cloned RK-branded Red switches that mirror the standard Cherry MX Reds, but Royal Kludge also offers Blue and Brown switches as an option. However, the RK84 is built for customization. It comes with a keycap puller and switch puller, in addition to four additional switches. The keycaps are ABS doubleshot keycaps with the familiar cross pattern connector on the bottom. The switches are plate-mounted, 3-pin models, but the board looks to have holes allowing the use of PCB-mounted switches. USB Passthrough: I don’t think there are any keyboards with USB passthrough that works on wireless/bluetooth mode. I am completely certain that the K2 does not have USB passthrough in any form. The keys are hot-swappable and up to five devices can be paired and stored in the device’s memory for later use. There is pro-driver support available(Windows only) and the battery has a capacity of 3,750 mAh. The keyboard can be connected in one of three ways — wired, Bluetooth, or 2.4Ghz wireless. The stabilizers are lubed very well which gives them a smooth functionality. There is a small ratlle though that I feel can be fixed by clipping and holee mods later on. We've added a link to the newly-reviewed Keychron C1 Pro/C2 Pro in the Build Quality section of this review.
