About this deal

If you want to save the video from a full day’s ride, you better not have ridden longer than the memory capacity of your microSD chip. Both units have two cameras continuously recording at about 80 MB per camera, per minute. The Thinkware M1 records 1080P (1920x1080px) front and rear at 30 frames per second; that means it’s not got the high 4K resolution of some of the latest car dash-cams, but equally it doesn’t need anything like the storage space.

The HaloCam motorcycle camera is a stand alone dash cam style setup that is wired into your motorcycle for power, or connected to an external battery bank that is wired into your motorcycle for charging. While the M1 does have an internal battery, it is small and only meant to keep the camera powered long enough when you turn off your bike to save the last video file. Having the HaloCam wired into your motorcycle will allow it to turn on and off when you start the ignition of your bike, unlike a helmet cam that you might forget to turn on or off. The cameras are also water-resistant with an IP66 rating. A 32 GB memory card comes as standard, but the MT1 can support cards up to 256 GB. has a finger skin touch screen (not glove) that gives you access to all settings and videos right from the unit.

Using the GPS data, the M1 can plot your bike’s location and routes with its driving speed on the map. The GPS helps you accurately assess the status of the accident by providing you with the vehicle speed, the direction of the collision and the severity of an impact. If you want WiFi, the Blueskysea DV526 has built-in Wifi for connecting your phone to the camera using their app. The VSYSTO motorcycle camera is a dual channel setup with 2 cameras that shoots 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second and uses a Sony IMX323 image sensor for good day and night video quality. Both of the cameras have a wide 170 degree field of view, which adds up to a nearly 360 degree dash cam view.

I had put the MicroSD card that came with the camera into the control box before installation, and after a bit of the rainbow of LED’s cycling at me, the light went solid blue, meaning everything was working and the camera was recording. Success! The DV688 is a two-channel camera system with front and rear lenses with a 130-degree wide-angle view. The device equips Sony 323+6 light sensors on both front and rear cameras to shoot high-definition 1080P videos. I also took the time here to pop the plastic frame covers between the tank and the side fairings open, and routed the cables up each side of the bike, being very careful to route the control toggle’s cable over top of the suspension pivot cover and not under or behind it. I did have to get out a coping saw and cut about 4 mm of plastic from the front left of my under-saddle area to squeeze the power cable through, but that was about the only bit I needed to modify to fit. So while the 4K capability of the Innovv K5 is impressive and good for vlogging, it doesn’t justify the higher price tag when a 1080 p @ 30 fps setup meets most needs. What’s the difference between 4k & 1080 P? See this post. WaterproofingAs long as you screw the mount pivot allen bolts to hand tight, the cameras don’t move at all. Vibrations, bumps, wind, nothing deflected the front or rear cameras from their mounted positions. In Calgary, we have speed limits from 40 kph (25 mph) to 110 kph (68 mph), and even riding North along the Queen Elizabeth II highway, where that 110 kph limit is, neither camera deflected at all. The camera features a Sony IMX323 sensor that shoots videos at 1080P resolution with a super night vision feature to capture crisp video in low-light conditions. The dash cam is IP67 rated, and resistant to water, whereas the DVR has a 3” LCD screen to watch the live footage when needed.

Motorcycle dash cams are similar to the ones used in cars except they are used outside which means they are exposed to harsh weather conditions such as rain, snow, dust, and extreme temperatures. The best motorcycle dash cam should be able to provide ultimate riding safety and pleasure. And that is what the Halocam F1 promises to be with its dual 1080P full HD resolution cameras—fused with the Sony IMX323 CMOS sensor to enhance imaging performance in a dark light environment. Recording as TS files and MP4 are both options, and while MP4s are more compatible with a wider range of software, TS are less likely to be corrupted if power is cut during recording. That won’t happen when you turn off the ignition as the device is permanently wired to the battery, but if a serious incident caused all power to be lost, TS is the better bet. You’ll also need to supply power to the camera, which can stop it being waterproof, plus be wary that it doesn’t overheat and shut down just when you need it. While unlikely to be a problem on modern devices, it’s best to not push the camera too hard, so avoid using 4K. UPDATE DEC 2021: Unfortunately, a year later and there's still no sign of a fix, despite it requiring just a longer press on the WiFi button to activate it, or better still simply giving the option to disable the button altogether, and having WiFi only coming on for a few minutes when the ignition is turned on. So let’s get down to how the cameras performed and whether the claimed features are of significant benefit. We here at webBikeWorld believe that you can’t just try something out once and give an honest opinion of it. Any product we test is actually used by our testers, and as such this camera was installed into my 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650. ThinkWare M1 Motorcycle Dash Camera In The Box & Features It comes with a rear camera, so you can get footage from behind, which is especially helpful if someone rear-ends you The camera lenses are IP67 water and dust resistant, while the central controller (DVR) is IP65 water and dust resistant. Once you set up the device, you can forget it as the system is resistant to water, dirt, sand, or foam.

Dash cams for motorcycles are wholly exposed to an open environment at all times. They should be ready to face extreme temperatures and vibrations in the outside world. The device should dissipate heat since it must remain functioning while facing harsh weather conditions. The M1 Motorsports is a dual cam setup with front and rear cameras that plug into the main unit where the processor and memory card are. Both cameras record 1080p HD video and use a 2.13MP Sony STARVIS image sensor. This is a popular image sensor on car dash cams and provides great night vision or after dark video quality as well as crisp day time video. THINKWARE uses advanced electronic image stabilization (EIS) to give you smoother video if you’re riding on bumpy dirt roads or have a more rigid suspension. The DV688 has been a popular budget motorcycle camera for many, as it offers full 1080p video on both the front and rear cameras, giving you full video coverage around your bike. Using a Sony image sensor, it has good night time recording capabilities or good “night vision” video. Overall the video quality is fine – generally in line with the other cameras I’ve tested (which also use similar, if not the same image sensors) – but not a patch on a GoPro or, as my test of action cameras showed, the Insta360 One R or One X2. Also, my opinion is that the Innovv isn’t the best dash cam at handling high contrast, and it’s not quite got the best clarity. As such, when the 2022 riding season starts, which for us here in the frozen North usually means March for those with heated grips and heated gear, or April for those of us who are slightly more sensible, there will be an updated continuation of this section of the review with more video captures. Another interesting feature is that the camera shoots video in 1-minute intervals. That’s helpful to keep the file size down, but can be a hassle if you want to share a longer video.
