About this deal

Plus, the WAVE 2 Portable AC requires no installation, meaning you can start enjoying its heating and cooling capabilities immediately without hiring an HVAC professional. Heavy items will require the recipient to make arrangements to take delivery of the goods and may require the recipient to help the courier unload the item. For items that are delivered on a pallet the courier will leave the pallet as close to your door as possible. BTU heating and 5100 BTU cooling performance for vans, RV, tents, off-grid rooms, or outdoor spaces The Ecoflow WAVE 2 Portable ACis a smart, portable cooling and heating solution for those needing a compact but powerful unit. Its no-drainage design in cooling mode makes it ideal for people who don’t want to deal with installation or hiring a professional.

Its predecessor only reduced the temperature by 11°F (6°C) in about eight minutes, meaning the WAVE 2 Portable AC delivers cooler results in a fraction of the time. Heating and Cooling Speaking of, the add-on battery is a nice addition (if you can afford it). It slides right onto the base, latches into position and connects via the included XT150 cable. The battery has a built-in handle with a power button and LED battery-life indicators on the front. There’s also a USB-C and USB-A charging port on the front corner of the battery – pretty cool. The side of the Wave 2 has an XT60 input for connecting any of EcoFlow’s solar panels. However, we highly recommend using it in conjunction with the add-on battery for charging only. Often times, even with a 400w rated panel in ideal conditions, it won’t be enough power to fully operate the unit without the add-on battery attached. That said, we highly recommend opting for the add-on battery if it’s within your means. In cool and warm modes, a target temperature can be set (between 16°C and 30°C), with the Wave 2 shutting down automatically to conserve energy. There are also two additional modes: Sleep mode, which drops the sound that the unit makes to minimum; and Eco, which drops power consumption (and performance) to last longer. The battery can take 800 charges before it hits 80% capacity, as it uses older technology. Still, that means that if the battery was charged for three months of the year, once per day, it would take 8.8 years until the battery was at 80% capacity.

Most ‘portable’ aircon units are still chunky boxes on wheels, but the EcoFlow Wave 2 is considerably smaller (336 x 297 x 518mm). At 14.5kg, it’s not a light device, but it’s certainly lighter than most air conditioning units. At this kind of size, the Wave 2 can be carried around the house, or out to the car to take away for a camping trip. The EcoFlow Wave 2 is a game changer when it comes to efficient heating and cooling. While it’s not perfect, it’s likely the best portable air conditioner currently available on the market. And with its ability to act as a heater as well, there’s truly nothing similar to compare it to, putting it in a class of its own. It’s relatively quiet, portable and well designed. My small office is south-facing, so having the EcoFlow Wave 2 chill it down during the day has been lovely. I wedged a single duct to vent the warm air out of the window. It took the temperature from 84 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit within an hour in Standard mode. My south-facing bedroom took longer to cool at night, because it is twice the size of my office. The vent cutout isn’t much use to me, as my windows open out with a hinge, but even just wedging the duct in there and closing blinds or curtains around it is enough for effective cooling. In terms of its actual cooling ability, we were definitely impressed. We tested it in an insulated camper van that was parked in direct 90 degree sunlight and found it to work quite well at providing noticeably cooler temps within mere minutes. That said, it’s very effective as a spot cooler when sitting right in front of the cold air output. But it’s definitely sufficient for small sealed spaces. Actual Energy Use in Cooling Mode (~370 to 400 watts max) If you’re concerned about sustainability — and who isn’t? — WAVE 2 uses R290 as its refrigerant. Unlike traditional coolants used in ACs and refrigerators — like freonand other CFCs— R290 is a natural, clean, and green refrigerant with less global warming potential and no ozone emissions. You’re doing your bit to reduce your carbon footprint by choosing an AC that uses eco-friendly coolants. One of the most significant upgrades of the WAVE’s newest generation is its heating and cooling capabilities. The original WAVE Portable AC was a powerful unit — but it was limited to only cooling. If you have larger rooms or those that get much hotter, you’ll need to up the BTU count on a unit and get something larger, such as a more traditional portable unit.

The design also makes this themost powerful unit of its size. An automatic drainage feature in cooling mode eliminates manual drainage and makes maintenance a breeze. Portable air conditioning units are rarely really that. Sure, they can be put away in winter or wheeled from room to room, but they’re far from what I’d call portable. That’s where the EcoFlow Wave 2 comes in. As we stated, heating mode takes a bit more time to begin. We’re not exactly sure why, but it may need extra time to prime the heating element. This seems to be especially true when transitioning from cool to heat mode, which probably won’t happen too often in real world scenarios. Most portable AC units don’t run for long. Even the original WAVEPortable AC could only cool for three hours at a time with the add-on battery before needing to recharge.Read on to see how WAVE 2 brings things to a whole new level of cool (and heat!) with the latest innovation in on-the-go temperature control. 20% Smaller The Wave comes with airflow shrouds and hoses for directing hot and cold air. When you use the Wave indoors, you have to vent the hot air out through a window as you do with portable ACs. One potential problem is that the Wave has a low profile and the included duct hoses can only extend to around 36 inches in length. That’s too short for venting through a standard window unless you can perch the unit on an appropriately close surface. Outdoors, the air ducts aren't really necessary. But you can use the cold air shroud and duct hose to pump cool air directly into a tent or RV while the unit sits outside, or bring the unit inside and use the hot air duct to direct hot air outside. You need the EcoFlow app for firmware updates, and you can connect via Bluetooth, but hooking the EcoFlow Wave 2 up to Wi-Fi allows you to remote-control it from anywhere. It only supports 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi, though. The app offers all the same controls as the physical buttons and a few extras, like a timer function. You can also customize the ambient lighting and turn the annoying beep off. It’s also an excellent choice for motorhome owners and campers who want an HVAC option for their adventures that’s equipped to keep up with an on-the-go lifestyle. The EcoFlow WAVE 2 uses R290, a natural refrigerant that’s clean, green, and perfect for a relaxing cooling experience. With lower global warming potential and no ozone emissions, it’s the ideal way to stay cool and comfortable compared to traditional refrigerants while reducing your carbon footprint. EcoFlow WAVE 2 Swappable Battery

Ultimately, my choice of mode was based on the temperature and cooling need. I tested the unit inside my garden office (around 7m²), which faces south, with the sun beating down through the glass doors. At its worst, this office can easily zoom past 35°C with the doors shut. While the air conditioner compressor is under operation, it works by diverting warm air out of the intake and exhausting it through the ducting. As a result, hot air will be pumping out of the unit as cold air is being delivered out the front. Since the fan mode simply moves air and doesn’t activate any heating or cooling elements, it uses significantly less power than both the AC and heat modes. At the lowest fan speed, it draws around 20 watts or (sometimes) less. At the highest fan speed, it draws around 30-40 watts. Pretty economical if you ask us, and the perfect mode for simply moving ambient air without any extra effort. Battery Powered Operation While on Eco mode, with EcoFlow's exclusive technology of Smart Battery Allocation Algorithm, Wave 2 can balance between cooling mode and fan mode to provide users with an expected long runtime. With EcoFlow’s advanced software algorithm, the WAVE 2 offers multiple modes and app control. It runs quietly (44 dB) in Sleep Mode and up to 8 hours in Eco Mode. This means that the air conditioner can be used at any time of the day or night without causing any disturbance. Experience longer-lasting comfort in your tent, RV, or home with its powerful and portable design. Is the EcoFlow WAVE 2 Eco-Friendly?To charge the battery, you need to plug in the EcoFlow Wave 2. If the AC unit is off, the battery will draw 700 watts and recharge in around three hours. Turn the EcoFlow Wave 2 on, and it will run normally, but the battery charges more slowly. One slight annoyance is that you can only charge it when it's connected to the Wave 2. But, aside from the ability to go off-grid, the battery also affords you some flexibility about how and when you charge up and how expensive the Wave 2 will be to run. That makes it well worth considering. The Wave uses an inverter compressor to output 4,000 BTUs of cooling power. Although that isn’t nearly as powerful as a typical window unit like the 8,300 BTU Windmill AC or the 12,000 BTU Frigidaire Gallery Cool Connect Smart Portable Air Conditioner, those models are appropriate for much larger spaces (350 square feet and 550 square feet, respectively). On the other hand, EcoFlow claims the Wave can reduce the temperature in a 64-square-foot space by six degrees Fahrenheit in as little as eight minutes, which makes it ideal for cooling tents, RVs, and other small spaces. Take advantage of quiet operations. With sound levels reaching a mere 44dB on Sleep Mode, WAVE 2 lets you sleep comfortablywithout excessive noise.
