Description

By the prevailing standards of LCD panels, black tones are impressively deep and richly detailed – there’s plenty of variation here, and while the absolute black of an OLED screen eludes the QN85A, it certainly gets a lot closer than you might be expecting. The Samsung QN85A was released in early summer 2021, and is available in the 55-inch version we're reviewing here, as well as 65-inch, 75-inch and 85-inch sizes. contentsTypeCode":"EM","filePath":"EM/202104/20210406150658001/BN68-11619A-00_QSG_Q85A 55-65inch_WW_ENG_201221. That sleekness is partly down to the inclusion of Samsung’s One Connect solution, with all the connections (four HDMIs, three USBs, optical, aerial and ethernet) housed in a separate box rather than plugged directly into the back of the TV.

As the sun continues to drop, the rainbow effect increases until in December it's 100% of the screen. But not everyone can afford or justify forking out for a top-of-the-range model, which is why the QE55Q85R looks mighty appealing. Its profile is a respectable 6cm, which would only look relatively chunky when placed next to a wafer-thin OLED. Two full-range drivers at the top of the frame, and another two at the bottom, powered by 60 watts of amplification and designed to offer a degree of synchronicity between on-screen movement and audio placement, looks admirable when written down.

It works in tandem with the brilliant AI-powered processor to deliver epic contrast - for our sharpest 4K viewing yet.

There’s ample opportunity for the screen’s processor to examine skin-tone and skin-texture here, too, and it’s never less than poised and expressive. It ensures the picture loses little brightness and colour no matter where you sit — an important development in terms of keeping up with OLED, which boasts more or less perfect viewing angles. Wick’s black Mustang is a joy, with the texture of its tyre tread enough to convince you that you’re smelling rubber. If our Samsung QN85A review has you considering other options, here are three more TVs with similar features that are well worth your time. This game-changing technology works with intense precision to control Samsung’s ultra-fine, super-sharp Quantum Mini LEDs.

Samsung QE55QN85A Review: Mini LED, big fun | Trusted Reviews

Content of 1080p standard and above looks an absolute treat, even if the QN85A isn’t the most surefooted TV around when it comes to motion-processing.Skin tones are carefully crafted, the dappled lighting of the village attack scene is clear and easy to follow, and even scenes with rapid movement go well beyond expectations of such a heavily upscaled image. To its credit, it’s never hard or coarse – even at volume, and it will go pretty loud by prevailing standards – but the sound it makes is insubstantial, and consequently quite strongly at odds with the pictures it produces.
