This is disappointing because I feel as though there is a lot of life left in the midsole and outsole of this shoe, while I’d guess that the upper has probably under 100 miles left in it until something gives out. And if things get really gnarly, you can kick it up a notch with convenient hook-and-loop tabs for your gaiters. Altra claims that the King MT has the most supportive upper in that it is made of TPU overlays, ripstop fabric, and the addition of the velcro strap. After about 10 miles i noticed the tongue on the right shoe started drifting to the outside of my foot.

As one who does not prefer a zero drop and has a foot that is narrow/low volume, I have traditionally struggled with Altra fit when running on technical trails, finding that my foot moves around on the inside of the shoe way too much to feel confident and in control. Dom 47, trains and competes mainly on trails in Southern California running about 3000 miles and 500k ft of vert per year.

I bought these to run on a medium terrain trail with wood chips, gravel, pavement, dirt and wood bridges. The upper of these King MT 2 from Altra Running incorporates small modifications that seek to offer greater comfort and fit. Deep lugs and superior draining make this shoe THE choice for soft, sloppy, soggy, sandy, and slushy runs. As the trails melted out down here in Palmer Lake I did find my left shoe collecting a lot of dust, I assumed it was because of a hole I poked through the upper but perhaps it was because of those holes around the Vibram logo!
